Drat takes OMRRA OpenTwins SuperSport Title

well. what a wild race weekend. It was the last race weekend of the year. and it was a double header. for me that meant 2 races on sat. and 2 races on sun as i only race 2 classes. i secured the overall championship for OpenTwins SuperSport on Saturday and had  already secured the overall 2nd place in the OpenTwins SuperBike Champoinship for 2009 going into the weekend races. i am pretty stoked. i made a lot of progress this year and i couldnt of done it without my sponsors, Cheshire MotorSports, Barry at KFG/Dunlop, SpeedyMoto, Tinys Coffee, the Bonfire Lounge, Stark Naked Pizza, P-Town Scooters, Todd at Advanced Motorcycle gear ( the boots suit and gloves are RAD!!!   and me … www.eldrat.com because i am badass

Daric Cheshire of Cheshire MotorSports and my teammate Brian S.  #97 were my biggest and most important resources, not to mention great people and great friends… thanks to you both sooooo much for helping achieve my goal of twins supersport champion of 2009.

Also thanks to Rob of Black Flag Racing for sponsoring me on his RS 125 twice… the first time i crashed out on his baby.. and on my second attempt of taming the high corner speed of a 2 stroke i got on the box for a 3rd place. that ride taught me how F’ing fast you really can corner.

my finishes for the weekend were two 1st places in my supersport races, a second, and a 3rd in my superbike races. the first superbikeraces was a break thru ride for me. doing low 11s and then a couple 10s during  the race. which was a second and half to 2 seconds faster a lap than i had previously done. Daric and Barry get the props for giving me a bike that was capable.. i just had to use more throttle now  and less brake!

the highlight of my weekend was after a race ( i cant remember which one…. ) Roberti came over to my pits after the race and asked who was on the triple nine. i spoke up and said me! he told me i was going really good out there, that he was watching me come out of 9 (i think it was) and i looked really good. wow dude. he is a great rider and super nice guy. i miss riding with him at track days for sure.

on this, the last weekend of the season,  i got to within 4 tenths of a second of the Twins Super Bike lap record ( set by Dave Salmi last year on the Cascade TrackTime Superbike Ducati 1098cc bike with probably close to 180 hp) and about the same amount of time off of Twins SuperSport lap record (which is actually slower than my fastest lap at PIR) set by Josh Bryan last year on a Buell 11XX cc  .. with probably about 10/15?? Hp more than my bike,  all on a  2006 Ducati 999R with nothing more than an pipe and ecu that realistically makes about 145, MAYBE 150 if i am lucky. i closed the season out putting down a personal best lap time of  1.10.445.  which to those not in the know… its pretty fucking fast on the heavier , under powered 3 year old Ducati that i ride.

what i know for sure is  this season i had alot of fun, learned, rode the best i could at the time, overcame hardship, laughed hysterically in my helmet, learned some more, made some great new friends, accomplished goals i set, made a new BFF, wore some great outfits,  wanted to cry, lost alot of sleep, … laughed some more,  had the feeling of INCREDIBLE JOY of a winning a hard fought motorcycle fight or 2 or 3, embraced the incredible sadness and dissapointment of failure and dispair, learned what it is like to cheat death,  taught at least one teenager about the dangers of getting a hooker in Thialand, (sorry Travis as your mentor you need to know this stuff, just think how my own son feels!?!), and really just enjoyed the whole experience and all those that i interacted with this season…  here to you!

here is one of races i caught on video from my bike this last weekend. on the last lap i did the 1.10.445. which still kinda boggles my mind. i thought the time sheets made a mistake… and also never felt so great.
